The Deputy Chief of Fire and EMS Operations is responsible for the largest division in DeKalb County Fire Rescue. The division is supported by three Assistant Chiefs, 16 Battalion Chiefs, and over 500 certified Firefighters who are cross-trained in various levels of emergency medical care. The Deputy Chief of Planning and Risk Reduction is responsible for the management of the DeKalb County Fire Marshal's Office, which includes the Fire Investigations, Fire Inspections, and Public Education units. These groups work in coordination every day across DeKalb County to educate residents, business owners, and all community stakeholders to create a safer DeKalb County. The Planning, and Data Analysis units are also assigned to this division to work alongside the Fire Marshal’s Office for strategic and targeted risk reduction efforts within the community. DeKalb County Fire Rescue’s E911 Communications Group are assigned to this division.

The Fire Marshal's Office is charged with enforcing "Rules and Regulations for the State Minimum Fire Safety Standards" as adopted by the State Fire Commissioner. The Fire Marshal is the authority having jurisdiction in these matters for all of unincorporated DeKalb County and for the cities of Avondale Estates, Brookhaven, Chamblee, Clarkston, Doraville, Dunwoody, Lithonia, Pine Lake, Stone Mountain, Stonecrest, and Tucker.

The Fire Marshal's Office has the responsibility to conduct fire and life safety inspections of existing buildings and structures, review plans and specifications for proposed buildings and structures, maintain records, and respond to customer questions and concerns relating to fire hazards.

MECHANICS

Automotive Mechanic: Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and performs routine repairs and scheduled maintenance on all types of motor vehicles used in the postal fleet.
Automotive Technician: Performs routine and complex repairs and maintenance on all types of motor vehicles used in the postal fleet. Troubleshoots and diagnoses more complex vehicle malfunctions using a variety of computerized test equipment.
Lead Automotive Tech: Serve as a leader for lower-level technicians and mechanics in a vehicle maintenance facility. Personally perform the most complex repairs and maintenance on all types of motor vehicles used in the postal fleet.
